Who says you communicate better than before?

With all the technological advances made in recent years, it seems that the ability to communicate has been greatly improved. And if you think about what transpired during the life of the pre-boom, it is hard against the belief that we are again much better today than in the past to discuss.

Think back to when we were children. A telephone was in any color you want as long as it was black, to paraphrase Henry Ford until after the war, manypeople in my neighborhood do not have a phone. If someone needs to do it quickly, they had to call to reach the corner pharmacy, and the owner sent a boy to play the pinball machine in the back room to the recipient at home. This person would drop what they were doing, run to the store and take the call in one of the many telephone booths along the wall of the store. Of course, the messenger is always a tip for their efforts.

Then We Came

My parents had a phone on a tripodin a corner of the dining room, which was used wisely. It 'been a Party-line with three other families share the same line, so if our phone was in use and there was a "click" on the line, it was time to hang up. In the late '40s, we got a private line, but I never used the phone home a lot, even in my youth. I preferred the phone to use the pharmacy, some of them have some privacy. It also costs only a nickel a call and talk as long as you wantedGetting up from body heat or generate an attenuated adult wanted to make a call. This system seems to work quite well for years to come.

It was not until I entered the business world, I was very dependent on the phone. However, the phone was just a comfort in my private life. Sure, there are more mobile phones around the house in various colors and shapes, but most of my personal communications to continue to take one-to-one.

InMid-eighties, after starting my business, I spent much time traveling by car around Southern California. Someone suggested that I could do a better Job staying in touch with people I do if I had a cell phone. As soon as I send this innocent-sounding idea, I was into at any time to be sucked available to almost anyone wanted to talk with me, because after a short period with a pager, I was soon wearing a bulky cell phone everywhere I went. The phones have receivedsmaller with more bells and whistles, but the concept of being on call 24 / 7 is the same.

Now, thanks to the Computer / Internet boom, we have progressed from e-mail and SMS and blogs to the next generation of social networking tools of Facebook and Twitter to Zimbio. And there will be new iterations of this as Fast as the tech people can bring them to market. So you do not want to at least once in a while, for the good old days, when most were communicationwhen two people came together - face to face, in the same room, without interruptions - and just had a conversation?
